BLOWN HEAD GASKETS
If a head gasket has failed as a result of engine overheating, the cylinder head should be tested for cracks that can occur due to engine overheat. A common mistake made by some Auto Shops after finding a blown gasket is the assumption that no further damage is evident. Refitting a cracked head to a vehicle is very time consuming and costly, when you consider having to remove it again, have it tested, repaired and refitted with another set of gaskets. The face of the cylinder head should also be resurfaced to restore flatness prior to replacing the head gasket. If the face of the head is not flat the new head gasket will be unevenly loaded and will likely leak or fail. If the cause of your engine overheat has not been determined, all cooling system components should be checked to ensure the engine does not overheat again.
